What is kombucha?

Kombucha is a fermented tea made from four ingredients: water, tea, sugar, and a SCOBY.

What is a SCOBY?

A SCOBY is a culture of bacteria and yeast that turns sugar and tea into tangy, fizzy kombucha.

What are the benefits of kombucha?

For starters, kombucha isn’t soda. It’s much lower in sugar, and the fermentation process gives you a drink that’s rich in probiotics - live bacteria and yeasts that are good for your digestive and immune systems.

There are a ton of studies claiming other additional benefits: resistance to cancer, heart and liver disease, weight loss and more. But the bottom line is, kombucha tastes great and is good for you. It fits into any lifestyle.

To someone who hasn’t tried kombucha before, what does it taste like?

Kombucha is tart and fizzy. While naturally low in sugar, it’s like sparkling apple cider vinegar with more bite, and slightly sweeter.

What does koldwave taste like?

Our kombucha is bright, fruit-forward and slightly tart. It’s been described by our customers as lighter, cleaner and more refreshing than traditionally-brewed kombucha.

Why does koldwave taste different?

At koldwave, we do a couple of unique things that makes our kombucha delicious.

First we cold brew our tea to get a nice light base without bitterness. After combining the tea with sugar and SCOBYs, we ferment our ingredients at a colder temperature than your typical kombucha. This slows down the fermentation process so that the acids don’t develop as rapidly - meaning less of that typical vinegar bite.

We then combine our base with a splash of cold-pressed juice, resulting in a kombucha that is crisp, fruity, slightly tart and very, very easy to drink. Early adopters have described koldwave as the gateway kombucha.

Is kombucha alcoholic?

Yes, but in trace amounts unless otherwise labeled. Alcohol is produced as a byproduct during kombucha’s fermentation process, yielding anywhere from 0.5 - 2.0% alcohol by volume (ABV). The label will indicate alcohol content if the ABV content exceeds 0.5%.

Is kombucha caffeinated?

Slightly. Kombucha typically has some level of caffeine, but exactly how much can vary based on type of tea, steep time, fermentation time and temperature. However, most of the caffeine is consumed during the fermentation process - typically about two thirds of the original amount at the start of the process.

When should I drink koldwave?

While koldwave can be enjoyed alongside meals to aid with digestion, or as an afternoon pick-me-up, our favorite time is first thing in the morning. The crisp, fruity flavors and slight fizziness is a healthy, delicious way to wake up and start your day.

How should I store it?

Do your best to keep it in the refrigerator, stored upright, unless you plan to drink it right away. Since kombucha is made by way of a fermentation process, the fermentation will continue if left at room temperature.

Can I shake it?

koldwave is carbonated, so we we don’t recommend shaking. Gently tilt the bottle back and forth to mix any sediment.
